Garage Sales (No Comments)

One of my favorite things to do when we’re not motorcycling is going to garage sales.

I think my Mum and Pop are the best when we go.  Of course the first they do is program the address into Pop’s new Garmin,  The first thing that happens is that the Garmin wants us to turn into the cemetery near our house.  Every time we leave our house it wants us to turn there. When that happens I really laugh because who would have a garage sale in a cemetery.

Mum and Pop mostly go to garage sales to look for books but I like to walk around and look at all of the other things people want to sell.  A few months ago when we went to a garage sale we found 9 misfit gnomes for a total of $9.  Those gnomes are now at the gnome shop getting new cloths and fixing up little mishaps that they had.  Next Spring they’ll all have jobs around my Mum gardens and I’ll take a picture to show you how good they look.

When we’re out driving and looking for garage sale signs my Mum will say “turn here” and Pop is always in the wrong lane so we have to go around the block to take another look for the sign.  Pop always says “why don’t they make those signs bigger so I can see them better.

Some garage sale signs are easy to find.  They are big and usually a bright color.  Pop says that if they would just put a big colored sign on the corners with a big arrow on them, the people wouldn’t even have to put their address on them.  He’d just follow the arrows.

One time we took the yellow mustang convertible to go to garage sales with. I thought that was pretty cool, but Mum said we can’t do that anymore because people don’t like it when we drive up in the convertible and then want a really good deal on something at the garage sale.

I’m not as good as my Pop when I want to buy something.  Pop always says “I’ll buy all of your books if you give me a good deal”.  Usually they say OK and then Pop takes them all and loads them into the car.  Then when we get home he looks through them and picks out the good ones and brings the rest to the Neighborhood Service Center for their book shelf.

I don’t buy very many things, but I sure like to see what is all there.  People sell tools, cloths, dishes, books, toys, furniture and one time they were even selling hotdogs and pop.

Still it’s one of my favorite things to do and when Pop or Mum say lets go,  I’m the first one to climb into the back seat and ready to go.  I’ll miss garage sales when Winter comes but there’s always next Spring.
