In the Fall of 2007 we went to Hackensack, Minnesota for Lumberjack Days. This is the weekend I was kidnapped and I still shutter (or smile) when I remember what happened to me. Mum, Pop, my Aunt Marilyn, & Uncle Steve ,Uncle Butch, Aunt Val and Cousin Lloyd and his wife Jan drove up . I have an Aunt Barb who lives there, however her house wasn’t big enough to have us stay with her so we rented a cabin nearby. We had spent the day watching the lumber jacks carve some fantastic art from logs and at the end of the day we stopped at the local bar for a quick beer. Next thing I knew I was snatched from the bar counter and put into someone’s pocket and they ran away with me. I was scared and tried to scream and yell but being small no one heard me. Next thing I know, I’m in a house I don’t recognize with people I don’t know and Mum and Pop no where to be found. At first I was very frightened, however I quickly realized this was going to be an interesting experience as there were 4 very attractive women all fighting over who was going to get to hold me. They sent a text message to my parents saying they were holding me for ransom and we then waited for a response back.
Now I’m not going to swear there was alot of drinking going on but it didn’t take long before these girls were putting me in places I’d never seen before but hope to again someday. We had great fun taking pictures (I typically don’t smile but if you look close I’m sure you’ll see one on my face). My parents pleaded with them to please return me as quickly as possible however I convinced them to at least let me spend the night. The next morning a restaurant was chosen to make the exchange and I was given back to my parents. Of course I was relieved to be back with them but the kidnapping was definetly a high point for me.
Hackensack had just recently hired a new policeman which everyone said was only out to give speeding tickets and not liked by the people.
He tended to drive up and down the main street pulling over cars for drinking or speeding. As you can see by this picture he and I had no problems becoming instant friends and even let me have my picture taken with him. He invited me to ride with him but I chose to stay with my group. What a weekend. I slept all the way home I was so exhausted but had great dreams.
